School Drop Out

Mission & Vision

The Early School Leaving Program, launched by Fondation de France in partnership with the French Ministry of Education, is dedicated to addressing the pressing issue of early school leaving in French society. Recognizing that students who leave school prematurely face significant challenges in integrating socially and professionally in an economy that demands advanced skills and qualifications, the program aims to prevent and combat this trend. Through targeted initiatives, the program fosters a learning environment that encourages students to stay in school and succeed, ensuring they are better equipped for their futures.

Actions Led

The program actively supports projects that create a positive climate for learning, limit school expulsions, and provide essential services for students at risk of early school leaving. It also offers opportunities for those who have left to return to school or find alternative educational pathways. By improving the practices of education professionals, the program ensures that students at risk receive the support they need.

The COVID-19 lockdown has further underscored the importance of these efforts, as the digital divide and social inequalities became more pronounced, particularly among lower-income families. Nearly 25% of low-income parents reported inadequate access to essential equipment and the Internet, compared to 17% of higher-income families. These challenges, coupled with a lack of guidance for online learning, have made the program’s work even more critical.

Projects that US Donors Can Support

Through Friends of Fondation de France, US donors can contribute to initiatives that address the digital divide and social inequalities that affect students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Donations will help provide essential equipment and resources to ensure all students, regardless of their economic status, have the tools they need to succeed in a digital learning environment. Support will also go toward enhancing educational practices and creating supportive learning climates that reduce the risk of early school leaving. By investing in these projects, donors can help close the gap in educational opportunities and create a more equitable future for all students.
