Mission & Vision

Founded in 2005 in Saint-Louis, Senegal, La Liane is dedicated to providing a safe haven and comprehensive support for vulnerable children and women. Its mission is to protect and empower orphans, abused and exploited children, victims of sexual violence, and young expectant mothers, ensuring they have the opportunity to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. La Liane envisions a community where every individual, regardless of their past, can lead a fulfilling and autonomous life.
La Liane’s inception was driven by the urgent needs observed in Saint-Louis, where the prevalence of teenage pregnancies and the high number of orphaned and vulnerable children present significant challenges. In Senegal, teenage pregnancies remain a critical issue. This high rate is particularly concerning in Saint-Louis, where socio-economic factors exacerbate the vulnerability of young mothers and their children.
Recognizing these challenges, La Liane expanded its programs to include specialized services for pregnant women and comprehensive follow-up care for their babies once born. By providing prenatal and postnatal care, as well as creating economic opportunities for young mothers, La Liane aims to break the cycle of poverty and vulnerability.

Actions Led

La Liane has implemented a range of impactful programs to address the diverse needs of the community:
Shelter and Support for Children:

  • Education and Healthcare: The organization ensures access to education and medical care, fostering holistic development.
  • Emotional Support: Counseling and emotional support are offered to help children overcome trauma and build resilience.

Support for Pregnant Women and Mothers:

  • Prenatal and Postnatal Care: La Liane offers essential medical services for pregnant teenagers and new mothers.
  • Nursery: A nurturing environment is provided for newborns to ensure their healthy development.
  • Economic Empowerment: Training workshops and a recycled goods manufacturing program equip mothers with valuable skills and economic opportunities.
Victim Support Services:
  • Comprehensive Assistance: In 2019, La Liane established a support office for victims of violence, offering guidance through police, hospital, and court procedures.
  • Psychological and Social Support: Mental health services and social support are provided to help victims recover and seek justice.

Projects that US Donors Can Support

US donors can make a significant impact by supporting La Liane’s various initiatives aimed at empowering vulnerable children and women in Saint-Louis, Senegal. These include:
  • Expansion of the shelter program, which aims to increase capacity to accommodate more street children and enhance the quality of services provided. This expansion will ensure that more children have access to safe shelter, education, and healthcare, setting them on a path to a brighter future.
  • Prenatal and postnatal care program support. By extending medical services and support for young expectant mothers and new mothers, La Liane strives to improve maternal and infant health outcomes, empowering these young women to care for their children effectively.
  • Enhancing the victim support office. This project seeks to strengthen the comprehensive services offered to victims of violence, including legal assistance, counseling, and social services. With better resources, the support office can ensure victims receive the care and justice they deserve.
  • Economic empowerment workshops. Expanding these training and manufacturing programs will enable more women to gain valuable skills and economic opportunities, fostering increased independence and an improved quality of life for their families.
By supporting these projects, US donors can help La Liane continue its mission of transforming lives and building a resilient community in Saint-Louis.
