On Saturday, December 14, an unprecedented cyclone struck the island of Mayotte.

Mental Health
Mission & Vision

Mental illness affects one in four people during their lifetime, posing significant challenges not only to those afflicted but also to society as a whole. Individuals suffering from mental health conditions face a major risk of suicide and, on average, have a life expectancy that is 10 to 15 years shorter than those without such conditions. Despite the critical need, psychiatric research is still a relatively new field, and many of the advancements in neuroscience over the past two decades have yet to be fully applied in clinical settings. In response to these pressing issues, Fondation de France launched the Psychiatric Diseases Research Program in 2016 to support research on psychiatric illnesses.

Actions Led

This program is guided by three primary objectives: first, to identify biomarkers that enable earlier and more accurate diagnoses; second, to improve patient care by rigorously evaluating and refining existing therapeutic practices; and third, to develop more effective treatments that can offer better outcomes for those affected by mental health conditions. By focusing on these areas, Fondation de France aims to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and clinical application, ultimately improving the lives of millions.

Projects that US Donors Can Support

U.S. donors can contribute to this vital research initiative through Friends of Fondation de France. Donations will support cutting-edge projects that advance the understanding and treatment of psychiatric illnesses, helping to identify new diagnostic tools, refine therapeutic approaches, and develop more effective treatments. By investing in this program, donors help drive forward the progress needed to better address mental health challenges on a global scale.
